Many of us were excluded, lonely and depressed before we joined any fandoms. We found refuge in the stories and comfort in the characters. We found people with similar interests and gained friends who understood and sympathized with us. When the stories hurt us we found solace in the fact that we are not alone in feeling this way. In many ways to many people these stories saved our lives. Some might have been pointing towards suicide, but maybe the Doctor and his story stopped some. That’s what matters, because we owe these stories our life. We owe it to the Doctor, the Winchesters, the Avengers and whatever fandom you might be in. They’re always there and always will be even when all others abandon us. I can honestly say that I was in deep depression before I started watching Doctor Who and the story very much pulled me from that place and changed who I am, made me who I am today. The 14,000 notes on this post show that I am not alone and none of us are.

We were allowed to listen to music during Maths today. I listened to Javerts suicide song for the whole period. It’s a great song but I’m still trying to work out the meaning.
His death, to me, seems really out of character. Then again, I haven’t read the book. It just seems unexpected to me.
I tried listening to the lyrics clearly. Does he want Jean Valjean to kill him?

I’ll try to sum it up!
So hey, I’m french and I read the book so :
I think the main reason for his suicide is that Javert’s completely lost and devastated because his vision of the world has been crushed by Valjean! He was always a righteous man, he was a feared inspector and always thought there was black and white, good and bad. He had a dualistic vision of the world. He tracked Valjean for many years because he thought that it was his duty as a policeman and it was no other way, it’s the law there’s no ‘yes but it was to feed my sister’s child’ ‘yes but i had to’; so he really expected Valjean to kill him because to him Valjean is evil like every other penal colony’s prisoner. Yet Valjean saves him! He takes a risk for him! and that, that is IMPOSSIBLE to Javert. He tells it many time in his song
“There is nothing on earth that we share
It is either Valjean or Javert!”
It’s good or bad!
“The world I have known is lost in shadow.
Is he from heaven or from hell?”
The world he has known is the world where he thought that everything was good or bad, but now he can’t answer the question, hell or heaven? There’s no alternative for Javert. So the situation here raises a million questions for him!
“Can this man be believed?
Shall his sins be forgiven?
Shall his crimes be reprieved?
And must I now begin to doubt
Who never doubted all these years?”
He begins to question himself and it really hurts him. He realises that he has been wrong all this time!
Moreover there’s another thing : Javert has chased Valjean for many many years (you can see it in the movie, the time passes, Cosette grows up and while the time passes, Javert doesn’t give up! he doesn’t forget! he is unbreakable, he is the law!), under different identities he hunts Valjean. It is one of his main goals, it’s the meaning of his life in some way and here he has lost it! He has failed to arrest Valjean when he was so close! He let him walk away with Marius when he could have arrested him! And he doesn’t understand! He is Javert how could he do that?
The last thing is that he can’t stand to owe his life to a scum like Valjean, he would rather be dead.
But mostly it’s because he can’t stand the fact that the world is so much different from what he had imagined!

Just wanted to point out a few things about this list :
> We can definitely not make the list by ourselves because I rewatched some episodes where Jane meets the people on this list and for some of them he didn’t shake their hand on screen! ( So if you wanna rewatch all episodes of Mentalist, that’s a good idea but it probably won’t help!)
> BRETT PARTRIDGE was definitely my favorite Red John suspect during the first two seasons but it would be too simple now that we saw him ‘first’ on this list? I wanted him to be Red John, he gives me goosebumps and he appears in the first episode, that’s evil :D
